Smart consumers are careful with their money; before handing it over, they ensure the money is going into trusted hands. There are still thousands of businesses out there that seek to swindle unsuspecting consumers out of their money. To protect yourself from being scammed, use trusted organizations online to research businesses you want to use.

Use sites like Canada 411 to gauge consumers’ reactions of the business. Typically, when a business can’t be trusted, unhappy customers will post their thoughts and detail their negative experiences. However, if you find that dozens or even hundreds of consumers have had pleasant experiences with the business, you can move forward knowing that the business has become a trusted establishment within the community.

Visit the Better Business Bureau to determine how the business rates. The BBB gives businesses a letter grade from A+ to F, and on the site you can search for businesses to find out what grade it has received. The ratings are based on a number of factors, including the length of time the business has been operating, the number of complaints filed against the business and the amount of background information the BBB can obtain on the company. While on the site, you can also file a complaint against a company.

Visit Consumer Reports. This site offers product reviews on hundreds of different items, from television and coffeemakers to automobiles. If you’re interested in purchasing an item from a particular company, you can see how this item is rated, as well as how other products from the company fare.

More and more businesses are starting to use various social networking sites to advertise their business and increase customer base. When you sign up with social networking sites, you should keep in mind that only certain personal information is kept private and if you are not careful, you stand to expose information, that can at times lead to dangerous consequences. Though social network sites have become more secure over the years and they are constantly working on improving their security, they are not completely secure. With certain sites, you have the option to keep some information private which means no one other than the people who have access to it, will see it.

When registering, be sure to check off any information that you do not want the entire world to view. Once you have posted your information and advertisement, you are exposing it to the whole world. Only upload the bare minimum information that you need to, in order to get your company registered on these sites. You have to make sure you only keep certain things public since these sites can do little to protect your information if you do not follow their instructions when signing up.

Online Discussion Of Case And Its Merits – Make Sure You Avoid A Mistrial

As a lawyer, you may have sufficient common sense not to discuss any matter related to your client’s case in public. Discussing any matter with the media assumes even more importance because courts are never generous when pending matters are discussed in the open media. Here, , you must keep in mind that internet too falls within the definition of open media.

Discussing your opinion about a case and encroaching upon the court’s freedom to form its own opinion by posting comments on the internet is obviously going to lead to problems. This may not fall within the definition of discussing the matter with the media.

However, the court may easily conclude that your comments have prejudiced the matter and may have an adverse influence on the jury. The last thing you want is to either make these comments yourself or have a client who makes such statements on the internet.

The popularity of Twitter and other such solutions means that it is possible for an intemperate client to post his or her personal opinion about the judge or the jury or the working of the court without even stepping out of the courtroom. Needless to say, this will be held as contempt because the court is very particular about maintenance of its authority and sanctity.

Advise your client on the best way to discuss the case in the internet. Of course, not discussing the case at all will be a very good option. In event this is not possible, it is best to keep discussions private and to restrict it between only those individuals who shall be as discreet as you and your client.

The last thing you want is for the court to declare a mistrial when you have argued your case well and are confident of winning a good judgment. The same rules should apply to your opponent as well. Any irresponsible statement by your opponent on the internet about the case can easily turn the matter in your favor.
