Smart consumers are careful with their money; before handing it over, they ensure the money is going into trusted hands. There are still thousands of businesses out there that seek to swindle unsuspecting consumers out of their money. To protect yourself from being scammed, use trusted organizations online to research businesses you want to use.

Use sites like Canada 411 to gauge consumers’ reactions of the business. Typically, when a business can’t be trusted, unhappy customers will post their thoughts and detail their negative experiences. However, if you find that dozens or even hundreds of consumers have had pleasant experiences with the business, you can move forward knowing that the business has become a trusted establishment within the community.

Visit the Better Business Bureau to determine how the business rates. The BBB gives businesses a letter grade from A+ to F, and on the site you can search for businesses to find out what grade it has received. The ratings are based on a number of factors, including the length of time the business has been operating, the number of complaints filed against the business and the amount of background information the BBB can obtain on the company. While on the site, you can also file a complaint against a company.

Visit Consumer Reports. This site offers product reviews on hundreds of different items, from television and coffeemakers to automobiles. If you’re interested in purchasing an item from a particular company, you can see how this item is rated, as well as how other products from the company fare.

There are many registered business names which are used on a regular basis to scam you and others who are not too aware of them. They try to inform you of services that they claim are available through their company. As a result you try to invest in them and once all the investments are completed, you are unable to do anything about it. Due to the nature of their setup, it is not entirely illegal and the worst part is, the information you most often overlook is right in the fine prints. Here are a few ways to prevent your self from getting scammed.

* Once you are approached by a company to purchase their products, do not be fooled by just their cost and their amazing ability to market themselves. Do not agree to anything until you have done further research and the best way to avoid being scammed is to not be intimidated by them.
* Look up a company you have never heard of. If their website and other online information do not look right, speak to someone in the field. If no one has heard of them then think twice before conducting any business with them. Chances are they may be just after your investment with no guaranteed return. Another way to review them is by checking up with better business services.
* Read the fine prints. It is important for you and your business to read the details of the contract before anything is signed. Contracts should be clear and you should understand every little detail. Without reading the fine prints of the contract, you can end up with a mess on your hand.

There are many other ways to follow up to see if a potential partner or vendor is legitimate. Do not hesitate to ask any questions and a review by a professional is always advised.
